John Vorhaus

Bio


John Vorhaus is best known as the author of The Comic Toolbox: How to be Funny Even if You're Not. This seminal book on writing comedy for television and film is now in its third printing, and continues to be a definitive source of information and inspiration for writers from Santa Monica to Scandinavia. Its follow-up, Creativity Rules! offers easy, effective, problem-solving strategies for creators of all types.

Vorhaus' television writing credits include Married... with Children, Head of the Class, The Sentinel, The Flash and more. An avid poker player, he has written several books on that subject, including The Pro Poker Playbook, The Killer Poker series and Poker Night: Winning at Home, in Casinos, and Beyond.

An international consultant in television and film script development, Vorhaus has worked for television networks, film schools, production companies and film funding bodies in 23 countries on four continents. He also creates situation comedies and writes screenplays for clients worldwide.

Vorhaus is a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University and a member of the Writers Guild of America. He has taught at such institutions as Northwestern University, the American Film Institute, the Writers Program of the UCLA Extension and Walt Disney Feature Animation.

He lives in Monrovia (California, not Liberia) with his wife and energetic dogs.
